It's a date for Dover High School seniors.
The district's school board voted Tuesday to set the high school graduation date as Wednesday, June 11. The event will be held at Utz Arena in the York Expo Center in West Manchester Township, according to Terry Emig, the board's president.
The graduation is tentatively scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
When the administration compared costs for certain venues, Acting Superintendent Jason Conway has said it would cost $3,000 less to hold graduation on Wednesday, June 11, at the Utz Arena, instead of holding the ceremony Saturday, June 7.
Conway said it was important for the board to quickly decide on the venue so that graduating students' families can make travel plans for the event.
The district will have snow make-up days scheduled until at least Wednesday, June 11. The original last day of school was Friday, June 6. In order for students to go to school the required number of days, and in the interest of saving money, Conway said the administration recommended the board set graduation for June 11.
Conway said there are options the school could look at if snow days continue to accumulate to make sure seniors can still graduate on that Wednesday.
He also said the district is considering whether to hold a class on a Saturday or add extra minutes to a school day to make up for lost time.
"We'll recommend what we feel will be (the best) way to address that," Conway said. "Hopefully, we won't have any more snow."
