A group of swimmers from Lycoming College had to be rescued after their bus became stuck in deep snow in York City late Thursday night.

Police officers from the city and surrounding departments ferried the 35 students and five staff members and parents from North Pershing Avenue, where the bus became stuck, to their hotel, the Comfort Inn at 2250 N. George St. in Manchester Township, according to York City Police.

The bus became stuck at the intersection of North Pershing Avenue and Front Street after its driver made a wrong turn trying to get to the hotel.

The students from the Williamsport college were at the Graham Aquatic Center, 543 N. Newberry St., for an event, police said.

Officers from West York and Northern York County Regional, as well as deputies with the York County Sheriff's Department, assisted York City Police officers.
