A longtime Northern York County Regional police officer has been promoted to sergeant , police said.

Sgt. John Vaughn II will serve as a patrol supervisor and has been with the department since September 1997, according to police.

In 2004, Vaughn became part of the department's criminal investigative division. He investigated crimes including homicide, child abuse and sex offenses.

Vaughn was promoted to the rank of corporal about a year ago, police said.

He also has served as Northern Regional's evidence custodian.
