At least two people were killed in a Thursday-morning plane crash in Adams County, state police have confirmed.

A Piper PA30 Twin Comanche crashed in a field along the 800 block of Old Carlisle Road in Butler Township about 5:30 a.m., according to Trooper Rob Hicks, a state police spokesman.

The crash scattered debris over a quarter-mile area, he said.

Autopsies are scheduled for Friday, according to Hicks.

Dental records and possibly DNA technology will be used to make positive determinations of the victims, he said.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, Hicks said. The FAA also was expected to visit the scene, he said, and state police are assisting the NTSB.

Hicks said people in the area reported hearing what sounded like engine trouble coming from the plane prior to the crash.

He said he anticipated no further information to be released Thursday.
