Five Northern Regional police officers have been honored for their actions in tracking down and finding a gunman in a crowded North York parking lot.

Receiving chief's commendations were Sgt. John Migatulski and Officers Daniel Zimmerman, Joshua Reimers, Frank Biesecker and Andrew Miller.

The officers responded to The Belmont at 36 W. 11th Ave. about 2:25 a.m. Nov. 23 for a report of a man with a handgun, according to Northern York County Regional Police. The business has since been renamed the 11th Ave. Banquet and Entertainment Venue, and formerly was Club XS.

As officers searched among the crowd of more than 200 people for the gunman, they heard a gunshot. Patrons took shooting victim Wayne Scott inside the business and officers quickly found the gunman, who was inside his locked car, police said.

Alleged shooter Michael Bermudez, 32, of York City, refused to come out of the car, and officers were forcd to break a window of the vehicle to forcibly remove him and seize a .45-caliber handgun on the passenger seat, police said.

Bermudez remains charged with attempted homicide; Scott survived his gunshot wound to the leg.
