Second-grader Mateo Maldonado is one of four finalists from across the country chosen for the award from the Sprout channel, which highlights children doing good works in their community.
Mateo was selected for founding the Litter Critters, a group of volunteers who clean up litter in various locations around York.
Mateo's mother, Meranda Rodenhaber, said Mateo will travel with her and his father, Chris Maldonado, to New York City Saturday for the announcement.
The winner of the contest will be on the TODAY show during the 8 a.m. hour Monday, said Sprout spokesperson Ross Jacobs. All four finalists will be featured in the 10 a.m. hour with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.
Jacobs said the winner of the contest will be revealed during the Kindest Kid countdown from 1-4 p.m. Saturday.
