A Manheim Township man died in a single-vehicle crash that happened less than a mile from his home on Monday.

Larry L. Rummel Sr., 67, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in the 5900 block of Blue Hill Road, said Terry Meyers, York County deputy coroner.

Rummel died of severe chest trauma, Meyers said, adding an autopsy will not be conducted.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of that crash that happened a little after 2 p.m., Meyers said.

Rummel was driving a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer south on Blue Hill Road when he failed to negotiate a curve, according to Southwestern Regional Police.

The SUV went off the side of the road, and through a yard and a driveway before it struck a tree, police said.

Rummel was about a half a mile from his home when the crash occurred, Meyers said.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Brandy Goodling at (717) 225-1333 ext. 107.
