York Area Regional Police say the clerk of a Dallastown store filed a false robbery report to cover up a theft he committed at the store.

Brandon J. Raffensberger, 23, of Dallastown told police he was working alone at Tom's Store, 160 E. Main St., when, about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, four black men who were wearing masks and hoodies, entered the store and robbed it, police said.

One of the men had his hand inside his pocket as if holding a gun, and once the four men received money, they fled the store, police said Raffensberger told officers.

However, officers determined that a robbery didn't actually happen and that Raffensberger took the money and filed a false report, police said.

Raffensberger was arrested after he confessed to officers, police said.

Now he is charged with theft, receiving stolen property and filing a false police report, according to charging documents.

Raffensberger remained in York County Prison on $7,500 bail Wednesday night, according to a prison official.
