An international grocery chain has plans to open a store in York City.
Aldi Inc. has signed a commercial lease with York Holding Co. LP for a property at 905 Loucks Road.
The lease is for 21,697 square feet of open retail space in a shopping plaza anchored by Staples and Tractor Supply Co.
Aldi, a discount grocer based in Germany, will open a store in York next year, said spokeswoman Hannah Dewey.
"We don't have a specific date yet, other than sometime in 2014. We hope to share a date early next year," she said.
Aldi's will be the only grocery store in the plaza, which also includes Ashley Furniture, Petco, Dollar Tree and restaurants.
The company operates two other locations in York County: 280 Northern Way in Springettsbury Township and 391 Eisenhower Drive in Hanover.
On its website, Aldi claims to lower grocery bills by 50 percent, while using environmentally friendly practices and making nutrition information more visible.
All of its store-brand products have a label on the front with a calorie count and other nutritional values.
Packaging information is also on the front of each box or container, alerting customers it is from recycled materials and telling them how to recycle it.
