The Springettsbury Township Police Department will offer a citizen police academy to residents starting in January.
Classes will be held one night a week for 10 weeks. Each class lasts 2½ hours and is generally held at the police station, 1501 Mount Zion Road, on Tuesday evenings, according to a news release from the department.
The classes cover a wide range of law enforcement topics including crime scene investigation, crash reconstruction, police radio dispatch and investigative and patrol tactics.
The academy will run Jan. 14 to March 25. Class size is limited to 20 people and is filled on a first come, first served basis. The final class will include a graduation ceremony, during which participants will receive an achievement award from Chief Thomas Hyers, the release says.
Anyone with questions about the academy should contact Officer Christopher Ford at 717-757-3525, or firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications can be found at springettsburypd.com.
