Just in time for flu season, the York/Adams County Immunization Coalition will offer free flu shots to eligible Yorkers.
If you are uninsured, a Healthy York Network patient or someone who can't afford a co-pay, this is your chance to protect yourself and others this season - no questions asked, said Audra Johns, co-chair of the coalition.
"I feel like if they come in for a flu vaccine, they feel like they need to be there," she said. "And that's fine with me."
The shots are only available to those 18 and older. For children, parents can make appointments at the York City Health Bureau or the county's state Department of Health.
Last year, the coalition gave away 1,500 shots in York County, Johns said. Offering the vaccines is made possible by a grant through the state Department of Health and the York Area Agency on Aging, she said.
It's important to get a flu vaccine to exercise your power - "the power to protect yourself, protect your family, protect your community," Johns said.
It's also a service to those who cannot get vaccinated, such as babies younger than 6 months old and those with allergies, Johns said.
"By us getting the flu vaccine, we help to protect them," she said.
