A new market near Hanover is slated to open in about a month.
The Amish Markets at Hanover in Penn Township is expected to open no later than Thursday, Nov. 14, said marketing manager Tanya Querry.
The market at 1649 Broadway was to open in the building that once housed Fulton Bank, a warehouse and former dance studio in September, but the opening was delayed because of renovation work.
Work on the building is ongoing, but it's already starting to look like a farmer's market.
Querry said the entrance was lifted from a barn and restored, giving the building an agricultural look.
"It's very rustic," she said. "We wanted it to have that feel."
Leased: The Amish Markets at Hanover might seem somewhat familiar for customers of a market in Shrewsbury Township.
That's because it is. The Markets at Shrewsbury, 12025 Susquehanna Trail, and the one in Hanover are largely backed by investor Joe Silbaugh and are designed to be complementary.
Many vendors can fit inside the 112,000-square-foot Hanover market building and include produce stands, Stoney Point Farm Market, Cat Hollow Quilting Co., soft pretzels, coffee stands, crafts, Amy's Custom Cakery, Amish baked goods, meat stands and more.
But Querry said market officials are still looking for stands to round out its offerings.
"We're still looking for a seafood seller and a deli," Querry said.
About 40 vendors have already signed on to have stands at the market, leaving about nine open spaces, she said.
"It'd say we are about 90 percent leased," Querry said.
Once the new shopping hub opens, it will host special events monthly, and hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
