York Country Day School will be looking for a new head of school when its leader moves to a different position in a similar school environment.

Nathaniel Coffman, who served at the helm of the York school, accepted a position as headmaster at The Prairie School, a preparatory school in Racine, Wis.

Coffman will stay in York for the duration of the academic school year. He has been the head of school at York Country Day School since 2007.

York Country Day School is an affiliate of York College.

Mary Dolheimer, spokeswoman for the college, said plans have not been made for replacing Coffman. She said the new head of school would serve on the senior cabinet at York College, as Coffman does now.

York Country Day School has about 220 students in preschool through grade 12. The Prairie School offers the same grade levels, but has about 670 students.
