A man initially suspected of trying to lure two schoolgirls into his truck by telling them he'd lost his dog won't be charged -- because he really did lose his dog, police said.
The Spring Grove man, whose name is not being released, approached the 12-year-olds in the parking lot of Spring Grove Area Middle School in Jackson Township at 10:10 a.m. Friday, Northern York County Regional Police said.
The girls were outside for gym class at the time.
The man told them he was looking for his lost dog and waved them over to his truck, but left after the gym teacher intervened, police said.
Officers tracked down the man and learned he'd lost his chocolate Labrador retriever and had been driving around asking people if they'd seen it, police said.
His dog was subsequently found in a different area of the borough, according to police.
Because the man had no criminal intent and merely used "poor judgment" in approaching the students, no charges will be filed, police said.
