Update at 1:36 p.m. The truck was being driven by Rodrigo Castano-Castanda of West Grove, Pa. Both lanes of traffic were open by 9:30 a.m.

A wheel flew off a flatbed trailer being pulled by a truck Wednesday morning, hitting two vehicles, dumping some lumber, and closing one westbound lane of a heavily traveled stretch of Route 30 during the morning rush.

Route 30 is restricted to a single westbound lane just east of Mount Zion Road as crews work to clean up the scene, said Sgt. Brian Wilbur with Springettsbury Township Police Department.

About 7:45 a.m., a wheel popped off the trailer and struck two cars, he said. Some lumber then fell off the truck and onto the highway, and two other motorists drove over the lumber and damaged their vehicles, he said.

No one was injured and none of the cars had to be towed from the scene, he said.

"It definitely could've been worse," Wilbur said. "Any time a flying object comes off a vehicle, there's potential there for anything to happen."

Police plan to weigh the truck, which "might have been carrying a load that was too heavy," he said.
