Some up-and-comers in country music will grace the stage at the York Fair - for free.
WGTY, a Gettysburg country radio station, will host the nightly concerts, which run from Sept. 6 to 15. The station announced Monday the 15-act lineup, which includes two local acts, as well as "American Idol" Season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina and Nashville duo Love and Theft.
And now there are a couple of months of excitement and anticipation, and possibly an opportunity to add another artist or two to the lineup, said Scott Donato, WGTY's operations manager. This will mark the eighth year the station has brought new artists to the free event.
"It's almost like the NFL draft," Donato said of picking fresh talent.
In the past, the concert has brought stars such as Luke Bryan, Eric Church and Hunter Hayes, he said.
"Pretty much everybody who's anybody has been on that stage at one time or another," Donato said.
And the artists are personable, too, signing at the end of their sets and taking photos with fans, he said.
"It goes to show you how country artists differ from pop artists," Donato said. "They're much more hands-on and listener-friendly."
Attendance varies for each act, he said, but the concerts draw anywhere from 400 to a few thousand people, he said.
"As far as the (listener) response, the majority have been real kind with their comments," Donato said.
Usually about half of the acts each year "make it," he said.
"When you think of every year, how many artists you're seeing for free, that's pretty cool," Donato said. "We just think it should be another banner year and we look forward to seeing thousands."
