The Dining Room at the Sheppard Mansion in Hanover will close at the end of 2012.

"It was a difficult decision. We've had the good fortune to work with very talented people and appreciate their hard work and dedication," wrote co-owners Kathy Sheppard Hoar and Heather Sheppard Lunn in a press release.

The Inn, 117 Frederick St. in Hanover, will remain open for overnight lodging and hosting special events and the Carriage House Market will continue to sell food and gift items.

"It's truly an economic decision," said Heather Sheppard Lunn.

"It is very sad for us, but the Carriage House Market will remain open and continue to serve people," she said. "We're just no longer offering the service of the restaurant, but people can still stay with us as a destination and get all of the local products."

The last chance to eat at the Dining Room at the Sheppard Mansion will be on Dec. 31 with seatings at 5:30 and 8 p.m.

"We wanted to give everybody enough opportunity to dine with us one last time and for us to say thank you," said Lunn. "We are so proud of the product we put out and of chef Andrew Little and all that he does."

Christmas tours of the mansion will be offered on Fridays in December for $30, which includes a three-course prix fixe at 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m.
