Giant Food Stores on Monday announced it had removed a snack from shelves following a product recall.
Talenti issued a recall for its chocolate peanut butter cup gelato, which may have been contaminated by salmonella.
Customers who purchased 16-ounce containers of the Talenti gelato with UPC 18685200094 should discard any unused portions and bring their receipt to Giant for a full refund, the company said in a release.
No illnesses have been reported, according to the release.
Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common foodborne illnesses. The bacteria can cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fever, chills, headache, nausea and vomiting.
Salmonellosis can sometimes cause fatal infections, especially to those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly, those undergoing chemotherapy and people with HIV.
