A West York man who allegedly fled from Spring Garden Township Police early Sunday morning ended up crashing the car he was driving into a utility pole along Indian Rock Dam Road in the township, police said.
Yikeem Williams, 24, of 1129 W. Poplar St., will be charged with driving under the influence, fleeing or attempting to elude police, driving with a suspended licence and summary traffic offenses, police said.
Williams remains in York Hospital. He was in satisfactory condition Monday, a hospital spokesman said.
Spring Garden Township Police said an officer spotted a 1997 Kia Sephia run a red light while southbound on Richland Avenue at Indian Rock Dam Road about 3:25 a.m. The officer tried to pull over the Kia, but it took off and he did not give chase, police said.
Williams ended up crashing into a pole along Indian Rock Dam Road, just west of Richland Avenue.
Indian Rock Dam Road was closed until the utility pole could be repaired or replaced, police said; it reopened about 10 or 11 a.m.
Williams was a wanted man earlier this summer in West York for allegedly being in a car that ran into a West York police office.
According to police, the officer spotted Williams urinating in a parking lot in the first block of Overbrook Avenue on July 7, and tried to stop him.
Williams jumped into a car driven by Jose Leon-Ortiz, 23, of Spring Garden Township, and Leon-Ortiz struck the officer with the car, police allege.
