Yorkers are lacing up their sneakers for the third year in a row for the Officer David Tome Memorial 5K Race on Saturday, Oct. 13.

All of the money raised from the race will benefit the David Tome Memorial Fund. The fund was set up in memory of Tome, a Spring Grove graduate and Northern York Regional Police Officer.

The 31-year-old was investigating a fatal crash in October 2008 when he was struck by an SUV and killed.

The fund is used to support safe driving education at Spring Grove Area High School.

This year the race is partnering with WellSpan Sports Medicine to be part of its race series. The race begins and ends at Spring Grove High School's Papermakers Stadium on Roths Church Road.

Pre-registration is encouraged and can be completed online at www.usroadrunning.com.

A half-mile fun run or walk will be held on the track for an entry fee of $5.

The 5K registration fee is $25.

Check-in will be open from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. and there will be complimentary drinks and snacks after the race. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male finishers and the top three female finishers in each age group.
