Rabbit Transit will participate in the seventh annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday.

Through the event - sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association - the public is encouraged to ride public transportation rather than drive.

For the day, drivers can exchange an original gas receipt for an all-day riding pass known as "1 Day Hop-n-Go." To get the pass, the gas receipt must be valued at $20 or more and be presented to a bus driver on a local fixed route.

Also, a rider photo shoot will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the downtown transfer center, 213 W. King St. in York City. Riders can share their "Dump the Pump" experiences. Then they will be entered into a contest to win a fixed route pass.

The Rabbit Transit's local event theme is "Dump the Pump. Save money. Ride Transit."

The annual event is designed to show the public how using public transportation leads to saving money, protecting the environment, reducing dependence on foreign oil and improving the quality of life.
