At 6 p.m. this evening, York City Mayor Kim Bracey will give the annual State of the City Address at Central Market on West Philadelphia Street. The event is free and open to the public.

As is tradition, Bracey will also recognize the winners of the 2012 York Awards at a reception before the address.

The winners include the guitarist, bassist and drummer for Live - one of the most popular bands of the 1990s - who will be there to accept the Mayor's Award for Musical Arts.

Chad Taylor, Patrick Dahlheimer and Chad Gracey formed the band with former singer Ed Kowalczyk in 1985. The four are 1989 graduates of William Penn Senior High School who went on to achieve mainstream success with their 1994 album "Throwing Copper," which produced a string of radio hits.

Live had been on a hiatus since 2008 but recently regrouped with a new lead singer. Taylor, Dahlheimer and Gracey announced the band's return to the music scene at a private show March 12 at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center.

Former Dover resident Jeff Koons, a well-known contemporary artist, will receive the Mayor's Award for the Visual Arts. Another York native, poet and playwright Dorothy King, will receive the Mayor's Award for the Literary Arts.

Two local doctors are the recipients of the York Humanitarian Award. Bruce Bushwick and Gordon Zubrod are being recognized for their work on the Barbers With a Heart Program, a WellSpan Health Group initiative to recruit local barbers to help identify men with elevated blood pressure and connect them with area physicians.

The York Unity Award goes to Rebecca Moore, an anti-violence activist who founded Operation Stand Up.

The York Leadership Award goes to Jessica Brubaker, who serves as president of the Central Market board of directors.

The York Entrepreneur Award goes to Jeff Lau, who opened Mudhook Brewery, 34 Cherry Lane, last year.

And the York Recreation and Parks Volunteer Award goes to Brenda Welty and Jon Gordon for their work at the Reid Menzer Skate Park.

Four students will receive the York Youth Leadership Awards for academic excellence in art. They are Yesenia Acevedo of William Penn Senior High School, Z'Quan Steeps of Crispus Attucks YouthBuild, Alex Shearer of York Catholic High School and Joshua Burns of New Hope Academy.
