Jazz musicians will be in York later this month for a first-time event promoted as a showcase of local and regional talent.
The York Jazz Fest is being presented by York City and the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center. The event is scheduled for 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, at the Strand.
Tickets, which must be purchased in advance, are $35 each.
The festival will also feature the culinary creations of local chefs from restaurants including Blue Moon, Central Family Restaurant, Roosevelt Tavern, The Busy Bee, White Rose Bar & Grill, Bair's Fried Chicken, The Pie Shop and Culinary Creations.
Musicians: Among the featured performers are several York County natives, including accomplished saxophonist Tim Warfield Jr., who graduated from William Penn Senior High School. Warfield has appeared on several Grammy-nominated recordings and serves as the artist-in-residence at Messiah College, according to a biography provided by event promoters.
Another act, Time Out, is a young band of York County natives who have been performing together since they were 9 years old.
Also performing will be pianist Orrin Evans, “a musical renaissance man” who is considered “one of the most distinctive and inventive pianists of his generation,” according to his biography.
Master of ceremonies Amy Banks is a professional singer, actress and television personality who serves on the board for Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz.
Tickets are on sale at www.strandcapitol.org or by calling (717) 846-1111.
